“Recovery can only take place within the context of relationships;
it cannot occur in isolation.”
- Judith Herman
My Approach
The connections made during individual and/or group therapy sessions will help you tap into your natural capacity for resilience, increase your feelings of self-worth, and provide you with a strong skill-set for self-advocacy as you move forward in your life.
My approach to therapy will allow you to feel a more meaningful connection to those around you, which is especially critical for women experiencing challenging transitions or changes in their lives. These new experiences may involve giving birth, raising children, getting married, going through a separation or divorce, losing a loved one, needing a higher level of care or supervision in one’s daily life, becoming an “empty-nester,” changing educational paths or careers, being in a relationship, serving as a care-taker, struggling with weight loss, coping with medical or other mental health issues and so forth.
I am here to support you through difficult transitions - both big and small!

The following evidence-based practices inform my approach:
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (understanding connections between your thoughts, feelings, and actions)

Motivational Interviewing (uncovering and exploring a person’s ambivalence to change)

Collaborative Therapy (developing a collaborative relationship between therapist and client that fosters personal growth and positive change for both individuals)

Psychoeducation (learning about symptoms and diagnosis in a way that is empowering and can potentially decrease feelings of anxiety and a sense of isolation)

Addiction/Substance Abuse Education and Counseling

Mindfulness and Meditation

Strengths-Based, Solution-Focused, Person-Centered Social Work Theory and Interventions

About
Hello and welcome to my practice! I am Honey Massey, Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and Owner of Women’s Collaborative Therapy, LLC. I hold a Masters in Advanced Clinical Social Work Practice from Columbia University as well as a Masters in Public and Nonprofit Management and Policy from NYU’s Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. For the past 15 years, I have provided direct clinical services and intensive case management to individuals and families in a variety of settings, including homeless shelters, educational and vocational programs, private and public hospitals, inpatient psychiatric units, and maximum-security forensic facilities.
I combine my skill set as a psychiatric social worker with a strong passion for self-advocacy to help my clients identify, work towards, and achieve their personal goals. In addition, I strive to help my clients to find meaningful connections around them, to better cope with challenges that arise, and to explore the possibilities that await them in the future.
I look forward to hearing your story!
